Daily revenue target per truck
Every truck carries a share of the office, the techs and your profit goal. This works out how much each one needs to sell on a normal working day.
Each truck, every working day
$1,137
About 2.5 paid calls a day at your average ticket.
- Revenue the shop needs a year
- $1,364,286
- Per truck, per year
- $272,857
- Profit at that revenue
- $136,429
How the math works
Yearly revenue needed is your fixed costs (overhead plus the full cost of your techs) divided by what's left of each dollar after parts and profit. If parts run 20% of revenue and you want 10% profit, 70 cents of every dollar covers fixed costs.
Split that across your trucks and working days for the daily target. Divide by your average ticket to see how many paid calls a day that takes.
Full cost per tech should include wage, taxes, benefits and the truck. The $101,000 default is the yearly figure the tech-hour calculator gives with its own defaults: 8.8 paid hours a day for 260 days, with taxes, benefits and the truck included.
Where the defaults come from
- BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook: HVAC mechanics and installers, median pay $29.33/hour (May 2025)
- BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026: benefits averaged $14.07/hour on $32.82/hour of wages in private industry
- IRS standard mileage rates: 76 cents per business mile from July 1, 2026
Defaults are national starting points. Your own numbers will always beat them.
